“Not Picking the Right Bristles“

Selecting an appropriate tooth brush is an important part of obtaining a healthy and beautiful smile. Inappropriate bristles damage the gums or do not brush well enough for personal needs. Recognizing the right bristles will make it easier to determine the next course of action for future brushing.

Basic Needs

Since an individual with braces or Invisalign has different needs when compared to an individual without the complications, the appropriate bristles will depend on several factors. In general, soft to medium bristles are appropriate for most individuals unless an orthodontist or dental professional determines that harder bristles are necessary.

Tooth brushing mistakes occur more often when an individual is using inappropriate bristles because brushing too hard can occur easily if the bristles are too hard or too soft.

Dealing With Complications

Complications refer to any dental work, particularly Invisalign Teen or braces, that make it more difficult to easily brush and floss the teeth.  Gaffney orthodontics may recommend different bristles based on the needs of the teeth and the situation. Problems that arise in relation to the appropriate tooth brush and bristles must evaluate the possible problems and reasons for those problems. For example, a hard bristle might not brush well between the braces while a softer bristle has more movement and flexibility.

Make sure you discuss the situation at the orthodontic office before assuming that the teeth need a specific type of bristle. An orthodontist will make recommendations based on the type of braces and the challenges associated with the braces. Maintaining healthy and beautiful teeth requires the right combination of materials and bristles. Do not select bristles that are causing discomfort or pain. Instead, opt for soft to medium bristles that are gentle on the teeth and gums.
